What is your role at Hatton Garden BID?
Glen works hard everyday to keep Hatton Garden safe and secure. He knows more about this area than most - look out for him on his daily rounds and be sure to say Hi!
I’m the Hatton Garden BID Ambassador. My role is generally to maintain a good relationship between the BID and local businesses and residents in Hatton Garden. I’m also tasked with being vigilant of any issues - such as antisocial behaviour, crime and begging - and escalate incidents where necessary to the appropriate authorities.
What does a normal day at work look like?
I spend my day visiting all the businesses in Hatton Garden to see if they need help with anything, need to report any concerns or have any exciting news we can share for them. I help them to have their voice heard so for example if they need to talk to Camden Council about something or need to report something to the local safer neighbourhood team then I can help with that.
Where are you based in Hatton Garden, and how long have you been here?
I’m based with the BID in their Farringdon office, but can usually be found around the streets of Hatton Garden. I’ve been working for the BID for about two years.
What sets the BID apart from other businesses in the area?
The BID works on behalf of all the businesses in the Garden and that’s why it’s different. Rather than having to think about making a profit, our sole purpose is to make the area a better place for all visitors, staff and businesses.
What has been your proudest moment since working at the BID?
The Pop Up Park last year was great and a really proud moment for me and the BID team. Lots of residents came out and integrated with workers and businesses which was a pleasure to see, and I was able to meet lots of lovely local people. It was a really nice occasion and everyone was happy. We got some fantastic feedback. It really embodied what the BID are trying to do in the area: bring people together and make the area a better place to be.
What’s your favourite thing about working in Hatton Garden?
Meeting new people. I’m a real people person so I like it when someone approaches me and asks me for directions or for recommendations. That’s the part of the role I enjoy the most.
