As the temperature soared to a sweltering 30 degrees last Thursday (5th July), locals and visitors took to the streets for the 2018 Hatton Garden Party. Traffic gave way to street entertainers, food and community stalls; while artisan jewellers set up shop in Bleeding Heart Yard, alongside the
British Academy of Jewellery and the
Institute of Professional Goldsmiths, for a pop-up market sponsored by
Seaforth Land.
JUDGE the poet, who has previously performed for Queen Elizabeth II, Nelson Mandela and Bjorn Borg, wowed the crowd with his sharp, spontaneous verse, as a town crier directed visitors towards human statues, stilt walkers, jugglers and acrobats.
Fifty teams competed for prizes from
Wild Goose,
Heming and
Bleeding Heart Restaurants via a Discover Hatton Garden treasure hunt app. Many more posted notes on our I Heart Hatton Garden board, before enjoying a glass of bubbles aboard the vintage Tresor yellow bus.
Locals also had a chance to learn about free services available through
Camden Climate Change Alliance,
Rethink Mental Illness and
Change Grow Live to help make Hatton Garden a happier, healthier place.
The Garden Party was hosted by the
Hatton Garden BID, which launched in October 2016 to provide a collective voice for the business community and play a vital role in the area’s development. Commenting on the event, BID Chairman Gary Williams (
Mastermelt) said, “The BID is working hard to create a bright future for Hatton Garden. Our Garden Party was an opportunity to celebrate all we have achieved so far and to engage even more businesses, residents and visitors in our journey. Hatton Garden is a London gem; thanks to everyone who came along to see what it has to offer.”
