How To Buy Diamonds In Hatton Garden

Jewellery is an investment, often among the most important you make in a lifetime. So how can you make sure you get it right? Here are a few tips from the Hatton Garden BID to help get you started…

Learn about the Four Cs – carat, clarity, colour and cut. Used by jewellers the world over to determine a diamond’s overall quality, they will help you understand what you’re buying.

Do your research before you visit us. Google our businesses, explore their websites and social media feeds, check them out on TripAdvisor etc.

Always buy from a shop. Don’t be persuaded to go elsewhere, however tempting the offer or persistent the trader. If something goes wrong with your purchase, you’ll need to go back to your jeweller. They’ll be easier to find if they have a permanent shop front.

Choose a shop or jeweller that belongs to a nationally recognised trade body, such as the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ), The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers (LAPADA) or The National Pawnbrokers Association (NPA). These industry organisations exist to protect the interests of businesses and clients alike.

If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Trust your instincts and walk away if it doesn’t feel right
